LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Slugger Field will be heating up in 2026.

The Louisville Bats on Wednesday unveiled a new alternate identity: the Louisville Humidity.

The name pays tribute to the hot, sticky summer air that baseball fans in Kentucky know well.

A member of the Bats staff originally pitched the idea in the 1990s, when the then-Louisville Redbirds were considering a name change.

“To see it come to life — how many people have an opportunity to come up with an idea a quarter of a century earlier and finally see it come to light?” said Chip Sobel, director of strategic alliances. “I don’t want to equate this with some scriptwriter who finally gets a movie deal, but for me, I can’t imagine anything more exciting professionally.”

The Louisville Humidity identity will take the field five times during the 2026 season, beginning Saturday, June 13, against the Iowa Cubs.

Humidity merchandise is now on sale at the Bats Team Store at Louisville Slugger Field and online.
