LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC won't be starting the postseason at home after a 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday night.
With the loss at Lynn Family Stadium, LouCity finished fifth in the Eastern Conference this season.
JJ Williams scored a goal 28 seconds into the match for the visitors.
After LouCity evened the score on an own goal in the 19th minute, Cal Jennings scored twice on assists from JJ Williams within a three-minute span to give Tampa Bay a 3-1 advantage.
"Listen, they did exactly what we talked about all week — Jennings running in behind, dangerous in transition and being aware of where he is at all times," LouCity coach Danny Cruz said. "We didn’t do that for two out of three goals. The first goal, obviously, also not how you want to start the game. But at the end of the day, as I said to the players, we must now move forward and be ready to go next week."
Cameron Lancaster brought LouCity within one goal on an assist from Manny Perez minutes before the final whistle sounded. While LouCity controlled 62.6% of possession, the offense could only muster one shot on goal.
LouCity will begin the playoffs at fourth-seeded Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, Oct. 21.
