LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC won on the road Saturday night to return to first place in the Eastern Conference.
LouCity defeated New Mexico United 1-0 at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque. Jansen Wilson scored the match's only on a rebounding shot in the first half.
"I canāt say enough of my group tonight," LouCity coach Danny Cruz said. "It was an absolute battle. We defended the box well. Guys left everything they could on the field. Weāre playing at altitude, on the road, after the game on Tuesday. Itās probably one of the games Iām most proud of this season up to this point."
LouCity (15-4-2) extended its wining streak to three games with its first shutout since June 19. LouCity moved a point ahead of the Charleston Battery for first place in the Eastern Conference.
New Mexico went nearly 45 minutes in the second half without attempting a shot.Ā
Wilson scored his fourth goal of the year in the 39th minute.
"Itās amazing," Wilson said. "Being part of this hometown club is unbelievable. From the players to the staff to the fans that we have every game, thereās no place that Iād rather be."
LouCity will host Sacramento Republic FC on Aug. 10 at Lynn Family Stadium.
