LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The 107th PGA Championship will tee off at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Thursday.

On tournament eve, the most pressing question was not which golfer was likely to win the season’s second major championship.

It was this:

Did he or didn’t he?

Did PGA star Scottie Scheffler troll his 2024 PGA Championship experience at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville by wearing an orange polo shirt during his Wednesday practice round?

It was a shirt that looked strangely like the jail top that Scheffler wore after he was arrested, handcuffed and charged with felony assault of a Louisville Metro Police officer outside the Valhalla gates on May 17, 2024, the Friday morning of the second round here.

Or, considering the charges were later dropped, was Scheffler simply representing his alma mater, the University of Texas, which dresses in burnt orange?

Or was it none of the above?

Claire Rogers of golf.com posted on X that she scrolled through a year of Scheffler photos at Getty Images and that she believes this was the first time the golfer wore orange since his famous mug shot taken in downtown Louisville, where Scheffler did his pre-match stretching and had a sandwich prior to being driven back to the course in time to make his tee time.

Scheffler, the world’s top golfer, did his media availability in Charlotte on Tuesday so he was not asked about his Wednesday attire.

But Scheffler is known for having a savage sense of humor. The charges, one felony and three misdemeanors for disregarding traffic signals, were dropped 12 days after the incident.

A fatal accident on Shelbyville Road outside the main Valhalla gate created a traffic backup that morning. Scheffler was stopped and arrested after what he characterized was a misunderstanding over whether the golfer was waved through the gates. His mug shot became the most famous photo from the tournament.

“I was never angry," Scheffler said after his release. "I was just in shock, and I think my body was just -- I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour.”

Scheffler is the betting choice to win the PGA Championship, which would be his third major title and first since the 2024 Masters.

Why not lighten the mood and have some fun?

Scheffler is paired with Masters winner Rory McIlroy and defending PGA champion Xander Schauffele in a threesome scheduled to tee off at 8:22 a.m. Thursday.

Let’s see if he shows up in orange again.
