In this episode of Crossroads, host Dalton Godbey heads to Jasper, Indiana, to experience a town where German heritage runs deep — especially during the annual celebration known as Strassenfest.
The day begins with the Strassenfest opening ceremony and parade, leading into the town’s vibrant Bier Garten, where locals and visitors gather to kick off the festival with music, food, and of course — a cold brew. 🍺
From there, Dalton steps away from the festivities to explore the Thyen–Clark Cultural Center, where he learns more about Jasper’s cultural roots and checks out some of the town’s impressive local art and exhibits.
Then it’s time to taste the tradition at the iconic Schnitzelbank Restaurant, where Dalton dives into a table full of authentic German cuisine — from schnitzels to sausages — while sharing drinks and stories with folks in town for the festival.
To wrap it all up, it’s back to Strassenfest for some good-natured competition: Dalton joins in the stein-holding challenge, tries his hand at the log-sawing contest, and ends the night in true German style — dancing the polka.
This episode is a joyful, immersive celebration of community, culture, and the spirit of Jasper, Indiana.
