LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The countdown to Thunder Over Louisville has begun.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser visited the Thunder Command Center to see the preparations.
Thunder Over Louisville on Saturday kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival season. The theme this year is "Thunder in the USA."
The Thunder Air Show is one of the nation’s top air shows featuring both military and civilian aircraft.
Scheduled performances include: Ace Maker T-33, Britt Lincoln Extra 300, Charlie Morris Airshows, CT-142 Royal Canadia Air Force, Grumman G-44 Widgeon, KY ANG – C-130J Formation, KY ANG STS (HALO), KY ANG – UH 60 Blackhawks, LA ANG F-15C "The Bayou Militia," LMPD River Patrol Rescue Demo, Matt Younkin Twin Beech 18 and more.
The Drone Show before the fireworks was added to Thunder Over Louisville in 2021 with around 100 drones. It has grown to include nearly 500 drones in each year’s show.
At night, Thunder Over Louisville fills the sky with a display of brilliant fireworks and big booms.
This is the 37th year for Thunder Over Louisville. It is one of the more than 70 events produced by the Derby Festival in the spring.
