The sunshine today helped temperatures climb. Louisville hit at least 60 for the high temperature Thursday with most of our area topping out in the upper 50s. While it may not feel warm yet, this is the beginning of a warming trend. Our high temperatures will climb into the 70s Friday and will stay there through the first part of next week.
The reason temperatures climb so high then stay at that same level is seen below. A stationary front will be draped through our region this weekend. As long as that front stays north of us, we will keep this warm air. You can see why in the image below. The wind is moving in from the south. As long as that stays true, we hold on to the warmer air.
Eventually the cold front connected to the same system will pass through, changing the wind direction and allowing colder air to flow in to our region. That will happen around the middle of next week.
