As we wrap up 2023, we begin to look ahead at what weather will greet us in 2024. The Climate Prediction Center includes us in slightly wetter than normal conditions six to ten days from now, so it seems likely either rain or snow await us in the new year.
That outlook picks up Friday and extends through next Tuesday (a week and a half from now). The image below shows a low pressure center positioned near us by Friday that will likely bring some rain to our region as it moves north.
The exact track of that system is likely to change in the next five days, but at this point it looks like the first weekend of 2024 brings some needed rain. Remember we will be ending 2023 with most of our area highlighted on the drought monitor under conditions ranging from Abnormally Dry to Severe Drought.
