After we get through more storms and heavy rain to end off the week, next week is looking HOT! We're likely going to get our first real taste of actually summer-like temperatures in our area with air temperatures rising into the mid-90s and feels-like temperatures climbing to 100-110 degrees!
If you've lived here long enough, you know it can get hotter than that though. So...what's the hottest Louisville has ever been? What about Kentucky? Indiana?

Louisville
It has been a very long time since the last time we saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in Louisville. The hottest Louisville has ever seen was 107°F! It wasn't just one time that this happened though, this has actually happened three separate times! Now, none of them are recent, but it has in fact happened three times. The most recent was back in 1936 on July 14th! The previous two instances were July 28th, 1930, and July 24th, 1901.
If you notice the two most recent times this occurred in 1930 & 1936, this was also during the Dust Bowl era. That heat wave in 1936 unfortunately took the lives of 16 people in Louisville.
The most recent time we broke 100° in Louisville was actually just a couple years ago on August 30th, 2024 when we hit 100° exactly. The day before that on the 29th, we hit 102!
Kentucky & Indiana
The hottest temperature the entire state of Kentucky has ever seen was even warmer than what Louisville reached back in the 1930s. The all-time high temperatures record in Kentucky is 114°F set back on July 28th, 1930 in Greensburg, which is in Green county!
The hottest temperature the entire state of Indiana has ever seen was even hotter! It was 116° on July 14th, 1936 in Collegeville which is in Jasper county.
Here's another fun fact for you! The greatest 24 hour temperature climb in Louisville was 40° in one day back in 1984 on March 14th where we climbed from 37° and ended up at 77° 24 hours later!
