LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — For many people in Louisville's California neighborhood, California Day is like a homecoming.
Neighbors, friends and former residents gathered Saturday at California Park on St. Catherine Street for the 36th annual celebration.
The event featured live music, a kids' corner, a basketball tournament and local food vendors.
For those who grew up in California, it was a chance to catch up with familiar faces and spend time with people they've known for years.
"It's just an opportunity to come back to the community and just love on your friends that you grew up with and just celebrate life," California resident Aretha Fuqua said.
Councilman Ken Herndon helped organize this year's celebration.
For longtime residents, California Day is a tradition that brings people back together year after year.
