LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville festival will celebrate a native fruit while supporting a local nonprofit this weekend.

Councilwoman Josie Raymond and the Louisville Nature Center are inviting the community to celebrate the third annual Pawpaw Festival.

The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Louisville Nature Center.

The free, family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be guided hikes, hands-on workshops, local vendors, live music, pawpaw tastings and activities for all ages.

Guided hikes require pre-registration, which closes Friday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.

The pawpaw is a native fruit of Kentucky and the Ohio River Valley, often described as tasting like a blend of banana, mango and pineapple.

Pawpaw is also the latest limited-edition soda flavor launched by Ale-8-One as it digs deeper into its Kentucky heritage, in partnership with Kentucky State University.
