LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man arrested by ICE in Georgia is back in southern Indiana to face charges for a double murder that happened in 2013.
The Clarksville Police Department said the homicides happened on Oct. 9, 2013, when officers were called to a house fire at 436 North Randolph Avenue. Two men were found stabbed to death inside the house.
DNA samples were collected during the investigation from a knife and under fingernails. This identified the victims as Amando "Miguel" Rodriguez Solis and Julio Cesar Ventura Monzon.
During an investigation, Clarksville detectives determined that a third person was also living in the home, but his whereabouts are unknown.
That person, Carlos Alberto Bonilla-Canenguez, 46, was arrested in July and remained in custody at a federal ICE facility in Georgia.
"Who would have thought it'd happen to be on some random weekday 12 years later that we get contacted that they've got him in an ICE detention center set to be deported back to El Salvador," Clarksville Police Chief Nathan Walls said.
Clarksville police said it was notified after his name and information were flagged upon his arrest.
"They basically gave us about a week, if you want this guy, come get him," Walls said.
He appeared in a Clark County courtroom for the first time Wednesday morning.
Bonilla-Canenguez is charged with two counts of murder and is being held without bond until his trial in February.
