LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bardstown Police Department added a new member to their squad - a furry, four-legged friend.

K-9 Maverick is a certified therapy dog with an extensive work history including crisis intervention and working with domestic violence victims and veterans.

He has been working alongside BPD's Social Service Specialist, Olivia Raley, for three years. Maverick completed his therapy dog training through Bullet Proof Dog Training in Cincinnati in 2021 and since then has been assisting with St. Vincent DePaul’s Domestic Violence Program.

The department says there are currently only four police departments in the state of Kentucky that offer therapy dog services.

Although his services are free, he does accept belly rubs and being called a "good boy" free of charge.

Maverick will provide emotional comfort, stabilization, and affection to anyone in need.
