LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 134-year-old candy shop in southern Indiana is getting some national recognition.
Schimpff's Confectionery in downtown Jeffersonville has been nominated for one of USA Today's Top 10 Candy Shops.
The top shops are chosen through an online vote. Voting opened Monday at noon and runs through June 12 at noon. You can vote once per day, and the top 10 shops will be recognized.
Schimpff's has been a longtime pillar of downtown Jeffersonville, celebrating 134 years of sweet success last month.
Opened April 11, 1891 by current co-owner Warren Schimpf's great-grandfather, the store has expanded several times, adding more space, more employees and a museum.
The family-run store has survived two pandemics, the Great Depression, and the 1937 flood.
But one thing has remained constant: the store still makes its candy by hand on the same table that has been used since it opened.
In a Facebook post Monday announcing the nomination, Schimpff's said "We made the candy good, you can make it famous."
As of Monday night, Schimpff's was ranked No. 1 out of 20 shops.
