LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville firefighters visited Home of the Innocents Wednesday to spread holiday cheer.
Captain Michael Bryan and other local firefighters hosted the 27th annual Firefighter Holiday Party at the local nonprofit's Aquatic Therapy Center Gym. The kids created a wish list, and firefighters raised money to make their holiday dreams come true.
Around 40 children living at the residential treatment and emergency shelter were there. The firefighters bought gifts for each child.
"Sometimes these kids aren't able to be with their family for Christmas so we bring our family out and show them that they're part of our family," Bryan said.
Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the Grinch also stopped by for a visit.
Home of the Innocents was established in 1880 to enrich the lives of children and families, offering residential and community-based behavioral health services, therapeutic foster care and adoption services, long-term care for medically complex children, along with supportive resources for homeless young adults.
Home of the Innocents has served about 2,000 homeless people in the last two decades in Louisville. To learn more about the Home of the Innocents, click here.
