LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, Sunni the sloth anticipated the opposite.
Sunni the sloth is a Linnaeus's two-toed sloth who resides at the Louisville Zoo. If Sunni climbed out of her hammock, it predicted an early spring. If she stayed snoozing, it predicted six more weeks of winter.
A zookeeper entered her habitat with a plate of her favorite foods: lettuce, zucchini, squash, carrots, a hard-boiled egg and even a marigold flower in hopes of enticing her off her hammock to bring us the prediction of an early spring.
But sleepy Sunni stayed curled up in her morning nap spot, and we will just have to stay cold for a few more months.
Linnaeus's two-toed sloths are named after the "father of modern taxonomy," Carl Linnaeus, who was the first person to scientifically describe groundhogs.
