LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville boy's dream came true Friday night during Game 1 of the World Series in California.Â
Maxson Schuster is an eighth grader at J. Graham Brown School in Louisville. He attended Friday's game with the Yankees and Dodgers as part of the Make-a-Wish foundation.
"I am a pretty big Dodgers fan," Schuster said. "I mean, I don't think you could tell. I don't have like a flag or anything in the room."
Maxson, a huge Dodgers fan, has battled brain cancer and now is in recovery, but has difficulty with mobility. He's been cancer free since spring but chemo caused issues with his spine.
His favorite player is from Louisville.
"The Dodgers catcher Will Smith is from my hometown of Louisville and he went to UofL and I thought, 'Oh, this will be a great guy for me to follow,'" Schuster said.
Schuster met Smith at a Dodgers game and the two have kept in touch ever since. His family got on a plane last Thursday morning to head to the World Series.
He was in attendance Friday night when Freddie Freeman cracked a grand slam at the bottom of the tenth for the Dodgers to take the win.
Maxson's mom said the family is also at Saturday's Game 2, and Maxson even got to walk out onto the field.
He met Derek Jeter, Aaron Judge and Dodgers great Orel Hershiser.
"Honestly, I think the best part was just going to the game and getting to experience that World Series atmosphere," Schuster said.
He hopes to become a sports analyst someday.
"It was a once in a lifetime experience," he said.
