LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Mayor's Hike, Bike & Paddle event at Waterfront Park will look a little different this Memorial Day.

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the paddle portion won't happen on Monday. In a social media post, he said it's canceled because of "rising river levels" and "challenging currents."

The rest of the festivities will continue as scheduled. Louisville residents are invited to kick off Memorial Day at Waterfront Park.

Greenberg announced the free community event will begin Monday, May 25 at 8 a.m. at the Great Lawn. Participants can choose between hiking and biking routes through the city and along the Ohio River.

The hike is a four mile walk that follows the river east toward RiverPark Place. The route then crosses the Big Four Bridge into Indiana and returns.

Participants can also choose a guided bike tour through downtown Louisville. The first 300 participants will receive a free bike helmet.

All hikers and bikers will begin their activities at 10 a.m. Free fitness classes will be offered throughout the morning starting at 8 a.m.

The first 2,000 people to arrive will also receive a free event t-shirt.
