LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- YMCA of Greater Louisville will offer free water safety clinics this month.
YMCA Safety Around Water clinics coincide with National Learn How to Swim Day on May 18. The free safety around water clinics will be held at all Louisville area and southern Indiana YMCA branches from May 16-19.
The clinics introduce children and adults to swimming and water safety practices.
According to a news release, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause of death for children between the ages of 5-14. Nationally, there are around 4,000 drowning incidents each year, averaging to 11 drowning deaths per day.
Additional clinics will also be offered in June and July.
