LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The first batch of 2024 Pegasus Pins celebrating the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby arrived at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville Friday morning.Â
The spirits producer, located at 528 W. Main Street, is the only place you can buy the pins until March, when they will be available at retailers across the area.Â
Part of Friday's unveiling included sealing new special edition KDF bottles of Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon with wax. KDF officials, along with Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau, hand-dipped several bottles.
The bottles commemorate the 52nd edition of the pins and the 69th Kentucky Derby Festival, with a Gold Pin sealed in wax on each bottle.
The Festival worked with Churchill Downs to create the special pin design, which features the Festival’s Pegasus symbol and official teal color, along with the number "150th" in red. It was designed to complement the design of the 1974 Pegasus Pin that honored the 100th Kentucky Derby.
The pins are $7 each and are good for admission to most Derby Festival events. A metal pin is available for $10, as well as a limited edition gold-plated pin for $75. CLICK HERE for more information.Â
Started in 1973, the Pegasus Pin sponsorships are now one of four primary sources of funding for the Derby Festival, and has become a way for the community to support Festival events.
