LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby Festival is preparing for the GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon scheduled for Saturday, April 26.

The annual races will both start at 7 a.m. on Main Street near Slugger Field in downtown Louisville. The finish line will be set up at Preston and Witherspoon streets, just outside of Waterfront Park.

Runners who complete the race will receive a medal at the finish line. According to a news release, it's the 52nd mini-marathon and 24th marathon held by the Kentucky Derby Festival. 

Competitors can pick up their packet in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center from 4-8 p.m. Thursday or from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday . Late registration for runners is still available this week at the Expo Center on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Late registration for the mini-marathon is $135 and $150 for the marathon.

On Thursday, finish line preparations will begin at Preston and Witherspoon streets. Starting 9 a.m. Friday, Preston Street will be closed to traffic from Main Street to Witherspoon Street, along with River Road to Preston and Witherspoon streets.

Kentucky Derby Festival also shared the scheduled for Saturday:

  • 6:30 a.m.: start line programming begins
  • 6:45 a.m.: call to the post and National Anthem
  • 6:55 a.m.: wheelchair division starts on Main Street at Brook Street.
  • 7 a.m.: both races start on Main Street at Brook Street.
  • 7:45 a.m.: 8:45 a.m. - first finishers of wheelchair division and miniMarathoners expected to cross finish line
  • 9 a.m.: 10 a.m. - first finishers of marathon division expected to cross finish line.
