LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville's airport is getting ready for its busiest travel day of the year.

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is expecting more than 18,500 passengers to come through Sunday alone. That's more than double the average day for the airport.

As all of the Kentucky Derby attendees head back home, the TSA said they should be prepared for a really busy airport. Arriving two hours early will help make sure they catch their flights.

"We're going to have all hands on deck to make sure that we're getting people through as quickly as possible," Mark Howell, TSA Regional spokesperson, said. "But there will be periods of time where we have so much volume, that we will have some wait times."

The TSA is bringing in extra help to manage the crowds. They're asking people to double-check their bags to make sure they aren't carrying any prohibited items that would hold up lines and cause more delays.
