LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana woman is dead and two other people are hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on collision Monday afternoon just east of Salem.
It happened around 5 p.m. on SR56 just east of Heritage Chapel Road, according to a news release from Indiana State Police. When the Washington County Sheriff's Department and other emergency personnel responded, the crash was blocking all lanes of the roadway.
One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second driver, along with his passenger, were rushed to UofL Hospital in Louisville. The ISP post in Sellersburg was asked to send its Crash Reconstruction Team to help with the investigation.
Investigators believe a red 2008 Toyota passenger car driven by 27-year-old Hanah Marie Davis. of Scottsburg, Indiana. was traveling eastbound on SR56 just east of Heritage Chapel Road when it crossed over the centerline and collided with a gray 2022 Jeep Gladiator in the westbound lane.
Davis died at the scene. The two occupants in the Jeep taken to UofL Hospital in Louisville with serious injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
All of the victims were Scott County residents.
The roadway remained closed for more than three hours during the investigation.
