LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A dozen new officers just joined the ranks at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
Class 146 was sworn in Friday in the Mayor's Gallery at City Hall. At the end of 2025, officials said the jail needed 45 more staff members across three shifts to get to optimal staffing levels.
This class of graduates will help the jail work toward that goal, along with several more classes expected this year.
The 12 new officers said they hope to be able to make a difference for the inmates.
"If I could just give one person the hope and the opportunity to turn their life around, and pursue something that will keep them out of jail, and to hopefully further help more people," new Metro Corrections officer Isaac Garr said. "If I can help just one person, that's just enough to me."
The officers will be paired with a training officer for their first three weeks.
One YTS officer was also sworn in. A lieutenant colonel, two captains and two lieutenants were also promoted during Friday's ceremony.
