LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Horse racing returned to Churchill Downs on Sunday to start the 135th Fall Meet.
The 26-day meet is held for the next five weeks on Wednesdays through Sundays to Dec. 1 at the historic horse racing track in Louisville.
On Sunday, the focus was on the "Stars of Tomorrow" as the 11 races were comprised of 2 year olds with aspirations of running in the Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs also had Halloween activities as part of Family Adventure Day. Children wore costumes and candy was given out.
"I think it was a great turnout and it had all the family fun stuff out here for all these kids dressed in all these costumes," said Sara Flowers. "It was great to see all that but also of course having the horse racing was wonderful."
The first race starts at 1 p.m. during the Fall Meet, except for Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 28.
