LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville firefighters were called to an apartment fire in the Russell neighborhood Friday afternoon.
Louisville Fire and Rescue Capt. Donovan Sims said crews responded to an apartment fire around 1 p.m. in the area of South 24th Street and West Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

Crews found the fire spread throughout the building. About 100 firefighters were on scene because it was nearly a four-alarm fire.
Louisville Fire Lt. Col. Bobby Cooper said a person was rescued from the second floor adn taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated and one firefighter fell through a floor and sustained trauma. The firefighter was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
It took about an hour and a half to gain control of the fire. Nearby Byck Elementary was evacuated because smoke got into the building.
Firefighters will be remaining on scene for a few hours to make sure it's safe.
Investigators have not determined how the fire started.
