54th Annual World Championship Dainty Contest and Festival in Schnitzelburg

It's that time of year! An annual summer festival dedicated to a centuries-old German game will return to the streets of Louisville's Schnitzelburg neighborhood this weekend.

The German street game requires a 5-inch stick and a 3-foot bat. The dainty is placed on the ground and the bat is used to tap the dainty with the goal of getting the dainty airborne. Once the dainty is in the air, the bat is swung in hopes of sending the dainty flying.

The three-day festival kicks off Saturday, July 27 with the fourth annual Dainty FUNdraiser at The Merryweather on Lydia Street from 4-9 p.m., complete with DJs, a Dainty batting cage, a cake wheel, drink specials, food and more.

The weekend of events leads up to the main event: the 54th Annual Dainty Contest on Monday, July 29, at Hauck's Corner.

Crowds will gather on George Hauck Way to see who will be crowned 2024 Dainty Champion. Anyone 45 years or older can compete in the contest. The reigning world champion hit the dainty 153 feet.
