8-year-old boy dies from strawberries in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An 8-year-old boy from Kentucky died after eating strawberries purchased at a school fundraiser, WFIE reported last week. 

Madisonville Police in Hopkins County said the boy got a rash that appeared to be an allergic reaction. After Benadryl didn't work, the boy was taken to the hospital.

The family went home after they didn't see a doctor. The boy died in his sleep.

Police said several others came into the hospital with rashes and symptoms similar to the same type of allergic reaction. The people that went to the hospital had all eaten the same strawberries.

Police have told people around the area to throw away the strawberries.
