LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An 88-year-old Louisville man's wish to tour a commercial bakery came true Friday.
Raymond Wolken is an Army veteran.
He grew up in Missouri working at a wholesale bread bakery before he was transferred to Louisville in 1961.
Since he left the industry he said he hasn't been inside one for 43 years. So he wanted to see how a modern day bakery operates.
The Twilight Wish Foundation partnered with Adam Matthews Bakery on Plantside Drive to make it happen.
"When I left the baking industry as such, a lot was blood sweat and tears it was hot in the bakeries a lot of manual labor and I'm sure that in the 40 something odd years there's been a lot of automation, I'm not saying these guys don't work hard they do, I'm just saying I'm sure conditions have improved quite a bit," Wolken said.
The Twilight Wish Foundation is a nonprofit that works to enrich the lives of seniors. Wolken said he's fortunate to have come across the organization and said this experience brought him back to his youth.
