LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A fire department in Louisville gave a girl a new bicycle after emergency crews rescued her in April.
Anchorage Middle Fire and EMS responded on April 25 after a young girl had a bike lever impaled around 4 to 5 inches into her leg. The impalement poses concerns about her femoral artery being cut.
Emergency responders dismantled the bike, cut the cables and removed the handlebars to secure and control the bleed. During the incident, the girl talked with emergency responders and showed "admirable resilience," according to Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS.
She was taken to the hospital and doctors removed the impaled objects.Ā
On Friday, emergency crews who helped the girl presented her with a brand new bicycle from Middletown Cycling.Ā
