LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Gas prices are soaring amid the ongoing U.S. conflict with Iran, and people are looking for ways to save.

According to AAA, the average gas price in Louisville is $3.78. Here are some ways to get the most bang for your buck.

One way is by maintaining your car. If your check engine light is on, it’s time to take it to the shop.

"One of those that could really affect your fuel economy would be your oxygen sensor," said Justin Myers, owner of Myers Collision Center in Clarksville. "That is what helps keep the engine in tune and at peak efficiency. You can see a huge drop in fuel economy if that sensor is clogged or dirty."

Also, make sure to check your tire pressure and be mindful when pressing the gas pedal.

"You're going to want to keep your speeds down on the highway," Myers said. "If you keep closer to the speed limit, you'd be surprised what 10 mph can do for your fuel economy."

To save money, try to combine errands into one trip or look for deals.

"Check to see if your credit card offers points or if your grocery store offers rewards," said Ashley Rose Schneider with Mercurio Wealth Advisors. "All of those point and rewards systems can really add up."

If you're willing to drive to the cheapest gas station, apps like GasBuddy can help you find the lowest prices in your area.

You may also want to adjust your driving habits for now.

"Definitely try to keep your car maintained, keep your speeds in check and reduce idling, and I think you'll see your fuel economy improve," Myers said.
