LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Residents in Bardstown are now able to resume normal water usage after being asked to conserve after an "emergency" that impacted treatment capabilities and supply to customers for two days.
The city announced the lifting of the water shortage emergency status on its Facebook page Friday morning.
The city declared the emergency Wednesday evening, citing a "weather-related equipment failure" at the water treatment plant that reduced its ability to treat water for delivery.
"The cold water and this pipe ā it just happened to find that one weak spot,Ā and it broke the pipe," Bardstown City Administrator Aaron Boles said Thursday.

Boles said the broken pipe in the basement caused flooding at the facility.Ā
"It proceeded to fill the entire basement portion of our water treatment plant with almost 12 feet of water," he said. "In doing so, it submerged ā we have four pumps that help distribute water out into our system ā it proceeded to submerge two of those pumps."
Several car washes in the area were asked to close during the emergency.Ā
Boles said the pipe was repaired by 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and by around noon that day, water had been pumped out of the basement.
The system was fully restored and back in operation Friday morning.Ā
Boles said there is no need for a boil water advisory.Ā
