LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Temperatures in Kentucky are going to remain dangerously low for the rest of the week.

Wind chills could be as low as -10 degrees in some places across the state.

Gov. Andy Beshear warned Kentuckians on Tuesday about the dangers of being outside for long in these temperatures.

ā€œKentuckians need to avoid being outdoors as much as possible as dangerously cold weather could cause frostbite or hypothermia in as little as 10 minutes,ā€ Beshear said.

According to Beshear, response efforts have made great progress but some roadways are still slick due to ice.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, there were still 27,894 reported power outages across the state. Over 950 people also sheltered in warming centers on Monday night.

"We need everyone to drive slowly and have weather kits in your car," Beshear said. "We’ve made it through the worst of this storm, and we need everyone to stay safe during the extreme cold this week.ā€

A 72-year-old woman in Whitley County passed away due to weather-related circumstances, according to Beshear.

The Kentucky National Guard will also decrease the members deployed throughout the storm from 3,000 to 1,000. They completed wellness checks, transported essential personnel and helped with a hotel evacuation.
