LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A tribute to one of the most important people in Louisville's history was unveiled Wednesday.
Humana co-founder David Jones Sr. is now memorialized in a brass statue by sculptor Ed Hamilton at the foot of the company's Waterside building in downtown Louisville.
Jones died in 2019. He was remembered for his down-to-earth spirit of getting things done, something Hamilton said he attempted to capture in the sculpture. He added that Jones' son, David Jones Jr., helped him with that.
"He always remembered when he was growing up and going to his father's office, he said 'Every time I'd go in his office before he would go out, he had about four to five pair of readers on the desk,'" said Hamilton. "He said he always had the readers and a pen, and those are little things I pick up on as an artist."
The ceremonial unveiling of the statue drew Humana's top brass for a rare appearance in Louisville Wednesday evening, including CEO Bruce Broussard and CEO-in-waiting, Jim Rechtin.
