BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some people in Bullitt County continued digging their way out Tuesday after the winter storm hit them hard.
Main roads in Taylorsville and Mt. Washington are clear. However, roads with no outlets and long driveways are still tough to navigate.
"It wouldn't be too bad if we didn't have this ice on top of it, the ice is what makes it rough," Bullitt County resident James Hays Jr. said.
Hays and his family have stayed inside since the storm hit on Saturday waiting to clear their driveway.
"Staying in and staying warm ā as long as the lights and water stay on ā we're in good shape," Hays said.
He had a little help from his neighbor who brought his big tractor with a plow on the front.
Other people in Bullitt County took matters into their own hands, like Jim Constable.
"It hasn't been all that bad really, I'm an old guy so I remember the winter of 1977 and 1978 that was my senior year of high school, and this doesn't really compare to that," Constable said.
He and his wife have all-wheel drive cars so getting out of the driveway hasn't been horrible, but he decided to shovel some on Tuesday.
As for how he thinks Bullitt County has dealt with the snow, he said he's impressed with the response.
"Every city has its limits, and they prepare for what they normally get, this is a little beyond that so I'd say they've done the best they can and they still are," Constable said.
As a result of the weather, Bullitt County Public Schools will have NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) days through Thursday.
