LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Bullitt County residents won’t have to travel as far for driver licensing services much longer.
Local leaders say a new regional driver licensing office is on track to open in Shepherdsville by the end of the year, a move aimed at keeping up with the county’s rapid growth.
The office will be located inside the former Ridgway Memorial Library building on Walnut Street, giving new life to a familiar space in the community.
Funding for the project comes from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s newly approved budget, which includes nearly $37 million over the next three fiscal years to expand regional licensing services. Along with Bullitt County, new offices are also planned for Barren and Oldham counties.
Bullitt County Judge Executive Jerry Summers said the investment comes at the right time.
"It’s an opportunity that we absolutely relish to have," Summers said. "We are a growing community, one of the fastest growing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and it’s a real need."
Officials expect the new location to open sometime late this year, bringing more convenient access to driver licensing services closer to home.
