LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Compass Manufacturing, a Louisville-based kitchen and bath product manufacturer, has opened its first direct-to-consumer retail store in south Louisville.
The Compass Outlet opened June 18, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Located at 6702 Enterprise Drive, the store will sell discounted open-box, discontinued and excess inventory, including faucets, sinks and vanities. It will also source an exclusive line of Boston-based, recycled paint.
The company specializes in distribution of kitchen appliances under its own brand to be sold at retailers like Menard's, Lowe's, Amazon and Home Depot.
According to Scott Stryer, the company's director of finance, the idea for the outlet is to give budget-conscious homeowners and contractors a low-cost option. The recycled paint, for example, will sell at $28 per gallon rather than the typical $40 price at big-box retailers.
Compass recently donated $14,000 worth of products to Habitat for Humanity, which led to $30,000 in sales at the nonprofit's ReStore outlet. Stryer said that demand for discounted products is what inspired the outlet's conception.
"We first attempted to sell these discontinued items to our current customers. We were told that there was no interest in this," Stryer told LBF. "After seeing what Habitat for Humanity did, we saw there was a market for these items."
The outlet is now open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
