LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- By now, many of us have seen the heartbreaking images from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

You might be wondering how you can help some of the flood victims, but the American Red Cross is warning people of scams that are going around.

The phishing scams make the requests look real, but often use a misspelled Red Cross email address, or send you to a private PayPal account.

Also, beware of door-to-door requests, unless you are absolutely sure it is for a legitimate organization.

Another scam to watch out for is GoFundMe, as links will likely explode in the coming days with crowdsourcing requests for individual victims.

If you're looking for an easy way to donate, simply text the world "Helene" to 90999, or visit the American Red Cross website. It's an automatic $10 donation that will show up on your next cell phone bill.

The biggest local group helping the victims is the 'North Carolina Relief Fund,' supported by Governor Roy Cooper.

Other groups helping include The Salvation Army, Global Giving, and Catholic Charities.
