LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Many of us traveled over the 4th of July or are planning a trip in the new few weeks, so if you find yourself in a hotel anytime soon, you should know about what you can and can't take home with you.

A recent report said all toiletries are free game, including shampoo, body wash, and lotion. Bonus points if they are upscale brands!

Also, the stationery and pen, if they are available. Nothing like a little hotel notepad to remind you of your vacation. You can also take your key cards, especially if they are from Disney or Universal. Kids love those for memories!

So what can't you take? Towels, pillows, and bath robes are off limits. Some hotels will bill you if they find those items missing, especially bath robes, that can be as much as a $200 charge on your bill.

Artwork is also off limits, which is why many hotels screw their paintings to the wall. And don't forget about the mini bar drinks - housekeeping will count missing bottles when you leave, and most of them are two-to-three times the retail cost.

Stick with the small, personal items and not the big stuff, so you don't get charged.
