LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With the warm weather this time of year, squirrels and mice are busy. But at night, they still get cold, so where do they go?

Drivers are reporting damage from hungry rodents that can cause thousands of dollars in damage.

Repair shops have reported seeing squirrels and mice living in cars frequently, eating away at wiring and sensors.

Some victims believe that rodents were attracted to soybean-based wiring under the hood of their car, but Carfax says rodents just like to chew.

Carfax suggests you:

  • Don't park next to woods or tall gras at night.
  • Check around your car for signs of nesting material.
  • If you suspect rodents, buy tape or pepper-based spray for your wiring.
