LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Costco just raised its membership fees this month, leaving some shoppers wondering if Sam's Club may now be a better deal.

So which club is better for you?

In these inflationary times, some shoppers say their Sam's and Costco memberships have been a smart investment.

Costco went up to $65 a year for a basic membership on Sept. 1, and Sam's Club raised its annual fee to $50 back in 2022.

Shoppers say Sam's Club has more name-brand items and they tend to be priced cheaper, while Costco has more higher-end items and favors "quality over quantity."

The biggest downside of both chain stores - most of their items only come in bulk.

That's a great thing if you're feeding a family of six, but not so great if it's just you and one other person, or pet.

Both stores do offer some smaller sizes, but retail experts say for them to keep prices so low they need to sell in bulk.

If you want individual sized items, it's in your best interest to visit a regular grocery store.

It's also important to remember what's more important than the membership cost, and that's how close the warehouse club is to your home.

If it's more than a half an hour drive, you will probably rarely go.
