LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you still haven't booked all of your summer vacations, you may be in luck! Prices in some cases are better than in the year's past.
Prices are especially down on airfare.
A surge in travel after the pandemic led to sky high airfares in 2023. But this year, with demand down and the cost of jet fuel down also, prices are following suit.
Hopper quoted that the average summer fare is 305 dollars, down 6 percent from the same time last year. Flights to Europe are also down almost 10 percent.
Discount airlines like Frontier are advertising some flights as low as 19 dollars.
But saving money on travel doesn't have to end at the airport.
Gas prices are down a bit too: the national average is $3.44 according to AAA, 14 cents less than the same time last year.
Unfortunately, hotel and Airbnb prices remain high.
So while prices are still far above pre-pandemic levels, travelers are seeing some relief in 2024.
With many consumers cutting back on their travel plans, that should continue to lead to lower demand and better deals.
