LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- With the NFL and college football seasons now in full swing, fans are snapping up jerseys and other merchandise. What you need to beware of - some vendors are selling cheap knockoffs.

Counterfeit merchandise can you leave disappointed on game day. You'll see them on street corners, at gas stations, or other places for $10-$20 a shirt.

If you look close enough, you'll see generic tags and numbers that are just ironed on.

So how do you know if you're getting the real thing?

Customers should buy from a reputable local store or an authorized website, like NFL Shop or Fanatics.

If you see something you like, don't just assume that it's real because it has NFL tags and logos.

US Customs and Border Patrol seize tens of millions of dollars of Chinese counterfeits every football season. And thanks to questionable online vendors, it's easy to buy a knockoff.

So if the price is low, it's probably a cheap fake. Buy from a trusted store or website, that way you don't waste your money.
