LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- When you buy tires for your car, many of us buy that road hazard guarantee for peace of mine. But, that warranty doesn't mean your replacement tire will be free.

One man learned that quickly when he took his Hyundai Elantra to the tire shop after one of his tires started leaking.

Even though he recently paid for an extra road hazard warranty, he was given a bill for $85 - $29 for installation plus tax and disposal fees, and $19 for a new road hazard warranty.

Unfortunately, that's common with most tire warranties.

Sometimes it can even be tougher to make a claim under "tread life" warranties, which come free with most tires, because you usually have to show proof of regular tire rotation.

The warranty is also pro-rated, so it pays less the longer you drive on the tires.

While it's frustrating to have to pay for another tire, it's still cheaper than a new one off the rack.
