LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One day before Kentucky's first Publix Super Market opens, employees were busy putting the final touches in place.

The grand opening is scheduled for 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the store at 2500 Terra Crossing Boulevard, which is east of Interstate 265 near Old Henry Road in east Louisville. The 55,000-square-foot store is the first in the state and one of three new locations in Louisville.

WDRB's Joel Schipper got a sneak peak inside the store on Tuesday.

"We are so excited to be here in Louisville to open our doors and get everybody into the store and share our different departments," Publix spokeswoman Nicole Krauss said. "We're starting out here in Produce. We've got Deli -- we're known for our pub sub and bakery -- lots of exciting things."

Publix has more than 1,300 stores across the country, but the Middletown store is the largest employee-owned store in the U.S.

"We're about 100 years old," Krauss said, "and this is our eighth state. We're so excited to come to Kentucky."

The chain is also working on other locations on Flat Rock and Shelbyville roads, and Ballardsville and Brownsboro roads.

WDRB has received dozens of comments from viewers on Facebook with their product recommendations and why they're looking forward to shopping at the store. Join the conversation and tell us your thoughts.

Publix said it's still looking for more associates, and will hire about 150 people at the east Louisville location. To apply, click here.
