LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Norton Sports and Learning Center is usually focused on sports, but it switched to fine art on Saturday.

For the first time, a show called Artists and Afros was held at the complex in Russell neighborhood. It showcased African American culture and heritage, along with artists and their works.

Pieces of artwork included paintings, sculptures and mixed media. Attendees could talk with artists and even purchase some of their work.

Kenneth Burne sent in some of his work to be selected for the show.

"I'm a contemporary artist," Burne said. "I chose several pieces that are in my current series, black and white, jazz series."

Burne showed off some of his work at Saturday.

"This is an amazing event. There are a lot of locals," Burne said. "Definitely wanted to support that and be a part of that."

The event continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the center on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The event is free, but parking is $20.
