LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Joann Fabrics announced the closure of two stores in Kentuckiana.
The locations on Veterans Parkway in Clarksville, Indiana, and the Towne Drive location in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The two stores are among the 500 "underperforming" locations being closed nationwide, which is more than half of the company's current U.S. footprint.
The company noted the closings in a court filing Wednesday, listing six Kentucky locations and about 20 in Indiana.
No timeline is in place for the closures. The company has been involved in bankruptcy proceedings for the past two years, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January for the second time within a year.
The company points to issues like sluggish customer demand and inventory shortages. It's now reportedly looking to sell.
The Shelbyville Road location in Louisville will remain open.
The Ohio-based Joann Inc. operates about 850 fabric and craft stores in 49 states, employing more than 19,000 people.
