LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kroger is offering a one-day discount in honor of its senior shoppers this week.

Seniors will be able to get a 5% discount on their total in-store purchases Wednesday, May 7.

The discount is exclusive to those ages 55 and older using their Kroger loyalty card or ID. Shoppers will need to let their cashier know they qualify for the discount, Kroger said in a news release Tuesday.

The goal is to help seniors save more on fresh foods and other everyday items they need.

The discount can be applied to grocery items, household products, over-the-counter medications and more.

Items that are excluded from the discount include alcohol, tobacco, fuel, gift cards and prescriptions from the pharmacy.
