LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Papa Johns said Thursday it will close hundreds of stores this year, locations CEO Todd Penegor said are unprofitable with low sales.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the Louisville-based business — the fourth-largest pizza chain in the United States — will close 300 stores by the end of 2027, but most of those closures will happen in 2026.

The announcement came in Papa Johns' fourth-quarter earnings call, in which the company said total revenue was down 6% compared to the same period in 2024. In a news release posted after the call Thursday, the company said it's "implementing measures to optimize restaurant profitability and fleet health."
