LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A social media post helped a Louisville chef decide to open a deli in the Schnitzelberg neighborhood.
Eric Morris was looking to change careers after he found out the restaurant where he was employed -- The Dirty Bird -- would be turned into a pizza shop, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Morris already had experience in the restaurant industry when he owned a pizzeria -- Faces Bar/Bistro in the Highlands -- and another eatery called the Gospel Bird. He was also the owner of Hull & High Water in New Albany, Ind., before it closed in 2019, and served as executive chef at the University Club on the UofL campus.
Morris changed his mind about leaving the hospitality industry when he remembered the response to a post he made on social media about a possible pastrami pop-up while he was working at The Dirty Bird.
That's when the idea for the Goss Ave Deli was born.
"I had made a post about doing a pastrami pop-up somewhere because of how successful it was when I ran it at Faces, my old restaurant," Morris said in an interview with Louisville Business First.
"We would legit sell out in the first five minutes. The response was much more than I expected. I knew from the Germantown/Schnitzelburg Facebook page that a lot of people really wanted to see a deli in the neighborhood."
If all goes according to plan, Goss Ave Deli could open in early December at 1010 Goss Avenue.
The space is currently occupied by Baked AF, owned by a group including developer Fred Pizzonia and chef Allan Rosenberg. They also operate several other restaurants on Goss Avenue, including Hauck's Corner, Baked AF, Breakfast AF, and Pizza AF.
